Traditionally GLP-1(9-36) was considered inactive, however more recent studies indicate that GLP-1(9-36) can contribute to inhibiting glucagon secretion by inhibiting voltage-gated calcium channels through a GPCR mechanism, an effect which reduces the number of glucagon containing vesicles that are available for exocytosis, thereby contributing the the decrease in glucagon secretion (Figure 1)(Zheng et al, 2024)
